Markham-Stouffville’s Platinum Jubilee Community Awards

This year marks the 70th anniversary of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the Throne. Markham-Stouffville’s Platinum Jubilee Community Awards were created to commemorate that important milestone, and to recognize people who have made an extraordinary contribution to Markham-Stouffville. The Queen’s passing was a very sad moment—she had been part of our lives for so long. When she began her reign, she said: “I declare before you all, that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service.” It was a commitment she kept. For 70 years, she dedicated her life to public service. That dedication was one of the main reasons she was loved and respected by so many people around the world. It seems fitting that we would honour her memory by recognizing people who have made exceptional contributions in the service of others.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Community Awards are a celebration of public service—and the contributions the award recipients have made—to Marham-Stouffville, York Region, Canada and beyond. They have worked hard to improve our communities and the lives of others in a myriad of ways. The award recipients are a demonstration that good works, helping others, strengthening our communities, and excellence, can take so many forms. Some have already contributed decades to improving the lives of others, while others are much closer to the start of an exceptional life of service. All have contributed in extraordinary way. It is an honour for me to have an opportunity to recognize their incredible achievements--and I’m confident there will be more incredible achievements ahead for all of them. Thank you for all that you’ve done to improve the lives of others, to strengthen our communities, and make Canada a better place.
