Members of Parliament for York Region donate pay raises to local charities
April 10, 2021

The York Region Federal Liberal Caucus members will be donating their legislative pay increases to local York Region charities to assist with COVID-19 challenges. Caucus members include Hon. Mary Ng, MP Markham-Thornhill, Hon. Deb Schulte, MP King-Vaughan, Francesco Sorbara, MP Vaughan-Woodbridge, Helena Jaczek, MP Markham-Stouffville, Majid Jowhari, MP Richmond Hill, and Tony Van Bynen, MP Newmarket-Aurora.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the York Region Liberal MPs have been working closely with community organizations. Last year, York Region Federal Liberal Caucus members discussed further support they could provide at a personal level to their residents, and donated their 2019-2020 pay increase to local charities in York Region.

As we continue to fight this pandemic, MPs will once again be donating their pay increases for 2020-2021 directly back to York Region to help those who need it most. Donations from the pay increases will go directly to support various causes including Southlake Regional Health Centre, Mackenzie Health Foundation, Vaughan Food Bank, 360 Kids, and Yellow Brick House in York Region.

All Members of Parliament and Senators will see an increase in their pay due to the legislative mandate in Bill C-30, which received Royal Assent in 2005. Given the federal legislative process, the increase is automatically scheduled at the beginning of each new fiscal year

Quote:

“It has been a very difficult year for all Canadians. York Region has shared in the challenges posed by the pandemic, and we hope our contributions will help ensure that we emerge stronger together from our current situations. As MPs we are here to serve our residents and assist to the best of our ability. Thank you to all who are listening to the advice of our public health officials and doing their part to keep our communities safe.”
