Parks Canada has been working with 'Blue Door' in Rouge National Urban Park to refurbish a 'park house' in the Markham area of the park. The house will be repurposed to allow Blue Door to provide critical safe and supportive housing and associated services for people experiencing homelessness or who are otherwise at-risk. A local non-profit social contractor ‘Building Up’ was also involved via Blue Door. Building Up teaches carpentry skills to at-risk youth and gives them hands-on experience on jobs sites to prepare them for future employment in the trades. This project is an inspiring success story! Establishing meaningful, diverse partnerships is key to the delivery of Parks Canada’s mandate. The partnership between Blue Door and Rouge National Urban Park is a great example of how innovative collaborations with the Park can benefit our communities.
